Places to visit
San Gimignano
One of the most famous and well-known medieval villages in Italy, to spend a pleasant afternoon in the shadow of its towers, in search of yellow gold: excellent vernaccia (still white wine) and saffron. A word of advice: comfortable shoes and good breath to tackle the avenues, narrow streets and stairs that lead to the top of the ancient towers of this village.
Volterra
From the archaeological site of the Etruscan Acropolis to the ancient Roman Theatre, passing by the medieval walls, palaces and frescoes, continuing with the churches in typical Tuscan Gothic style, alternating black and white marble, up to the present day and the working of precious alabaster.
Lucca
A city not to be missed for its works of art and monuments: the oval layout of Piazza Anfiteatro is unique in the world and must be visited at least once in a lifetime; not forgetting to walk along the perfectly preserved medieval walls and bastions. The whole of Lucca is another characteristic Tuscan area that is easily reached from La Casina.
Pisa
The rivalry between Livorno and Pisa is historic when, in reality, the two territories have been similar since time immemorial. It is trite to suggest a visit to the Tower, the Baptistery or Piazza dei Miracoli; wander around the inner alleys, stroll along the Lungarno, let your breath take away from the earliest examples of Florentine Gothic such as the church of Santa Maria della Spina or walk under the Dantean tower of Count Ugolino: Pisa is a little treasure chest of wonders! Snacking on cecìna is highly recommended!
Siena
A splendid town in the Tuscan hinterland, famous for the Palio and its medieval beauty.
Castiglioncello
A place rich in history and a popular tourist destination already in Roman times, from which the splendid villas along the coastline originate.
Bolgheri
This village has always been associated with the famous poet Giosuè Carducci, who moved here in 1839 when he was only four years old, and is also famous for its wines.
Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre are five characteristic ancient maritime villages located in Liguria between the cities of La Spezia and Genoa. They extend along an approximately 10 km stretch of indented coastline and are surrounded by nature in a hilly area characterised by terraced dry-stone walls with vineyards and olive groves.
Firenze
Cradle of the Renaissance, Piazzale Michelangelo, Santa Maria del Fiore, Santa Croce, Santo Spirito and the Uffizi are just some of the places to visit.
